Exciting Times in
Clarion County
A kindness. A killing. Two events that happen during the
Revolutionary War forever tie the heirs of Jed Frolic to a mysterious old
Indian called Toby.
Small settlements spring up in the wilderness; roads and bridges bind them
together. Farms expand and the buffalo, wolves and panthers fade away to
legend. A town is laid out, people of all types rush to fill it, and a day
comes when the townsmen must decide its fate.
The years pass, a dozen at a time. The country grows and becomes Clarion
County, Pennsylvania. Its sons die in the Civil War, oil is discovered and
brings frenzy, a great church is erected. And, the descendants of Jed Frolic
are always there, always a part of the exciting times.
A great monument is unveiled. The circus comes to town, and a boy is changed
forever. A woman discovers a terrible legacy, but the family lives on,
producing flyers, soldiers and Boy Scouts. Great secrets have been
forgotten, but an old mystery still changes and grows.
Down to modern times, when people fight for the environment and fling
themselves from cliffs. When a thing that was the wonder of its age is
brought crashing down in clouds of smoke and steel. When a river rises up
and works to scrub away a town.
And, even now, someone still waits. Someone still watches. Even today,
someone still remembers Toby’s Curse.
