Hi! I'm Hank Hufnagel, Scoutmaster of Troop 51 of Clarion, PA.
These pages tell of the doings of Troop 51 a few years ago. Nonetheless you will find some
interesting stuff here:

Troop 51

Troop and Crew Pictures
Troop 51 was originally founded in
1911 or 1912. Over the years it has stopped and started a number of times.
Most recently, the troop was restarted in February, 1996 under the
sponsorship of the Clarion Masons. Here is a collection of summer camp and Philmont
Crew pictures from 1996
to 2001. If you are an old hand with the troop
will have a good time seeing how many last names you can supply?

Out With the Boys – The
Many Adventures of Troop 51
For years I wrote news articles about the various outings of the
Troop for the Clarion Area News. When the first of our Scouts made Eagle in
2001, I decided to make a book of these articles and present it to them as a
remembrance of our days together.
Click here to read the book online. If you have read the articles in the
past, you will find two new bits in the book. The
Introduction tells how I came to be Scoutmaster
and start writing the articles.
Eagle is the last of the articles and
tells about an adventurous hike into the future that Alan and I took.
If you have not read any of the articles before, you might
want to start with the ones the that I consider the best. Here they are:
The Ultimate Game
Catapult!
A Sunny Day
The 99-Cent Tent
Philmont Day 3
Mouse On Ice.
Catapult
and Trebuchet Plans
Of all the articles that I ever wrote, the one about building a
Scout catapult generated the most mail. Everyone wanted plans for making
their own.
Here are the plans.
Once we built a trebuchet. As part of the getting ready for
that, I constructed a model trebuchet that threw M&M's.
See it here.

Scouting
Software
One of the requirements for
tenderfoot is to learn the Scout Law. I am a programmer by profession, and
back when he was 12, my son Pete was a game programmer using the Klik &
Play game development system. Together, we developed a
Scout Law Game to help scouts who have access to Windows based computers to
learn the Scout Law. This game is free and can be downloaded from the link
above.
