Find the middle grommet on the long edge that is away from the step of the seam. This is where the pole or supporting rope will go. Refer to the red dots in the diagram above these are the new grommets that you must install. 1. Add grommets 3 to the left and right of the pole grommet. Once the tent is erected, you can use these to tie the tops of the door flaps together, so that these will hang in a better shut position. 2. Measure from the center of the top-left corner grommet exactly 33.25 inches down the left edge of the tarp. Install a grommet centered on this point. Do the same on the right edge of the tarp. 3. Measure front the center of the middle grommet on the bottom
edge of the tarp exactly 33.25 to the left. Install a grommet centered on
this point. Measure 33.25 to the right of the bottom middle grommet and
install the last grommet at this point. |

You dont really need a pole. Either find a straight 6 foot long stick in the field when it is time to set up your tent, or tie one end of the tents rope to the peak grommet and the other to a high tree branch. A nice pole does make it easier to set up the tent, and also gives you something to duct tape the mosquito netting to, if you are adding this option. I did manufacture a pole for use with my tent. I just took a chrome mop handle, purchased at TruValue, cut this to a length of 70, and epoxied a wooden tip I carved to one end for insertion though the peak grommet of the tent. Because I was going backpacking and didnt want to carry a long pole around with me, I used a pipe cutter to cut the pole into three sections that would fit into the pole pocket of my pack. I then got a couple of copper pipe joins and used these to re-assemble the pole for use. See below.
